Watching our kids become more involved in the farm sparked our excitement to share this passion and love for agriculture with other kids in our community. We want to share our knowledge and teach them where their food comes from. Our passion for educating the next generation about agriculture stems from our desire to empower them with the knowledge and skills that will shape a more sustainable and food-secure future. Not only do we hope to foster connection and community, but we want to bridge the knowledge gap and nurture an appreciation for agriculture, all from a trusted source.
Partnering with Ag in the Classroom, we host four schools from our community near Norquay, Saskatchewan. The focus is to teach the kids about planting and seeding, the equipment farmers use, what the seed needs to grow, and how to protect it. This includes explaining soil health and fertility, seed identification, as well as crop management and pests.
The kids are able to learn about harvesting grain, rolling out canola seeds, and seeing the oil that comes from the seed. Now they are able to connect that when they put butter on their toast, those products are grown in their backyard. We also introduce animals to educate the kids about their anatomy, proper care, and the food products derived from them.
It is amazing to see kids excited to learn about agriculture, and shocking to learn how little some kids know about their food and farming, considering they live in a rural community. Over 25% of the kids had never been to a farm. Another large focus of our food farm is farm safety, teaching them about chemicals, grain drowning, power lines, lawnmowers, and focusing on how powerful farm machinery is.
The Fall 2024 Food Farm was another successful event!
We can't thank you all enough for the incredible support you've shown for our Food Farms in partnership with Ag in the Classroom. It's a journey that's not only fun but also incredibly inspiring!
We continue to be supporters of the Outstanding Young Farmer program after we saw firsthand what a difference winning the ward in 2018 had in our lives.
Thank A Farmer event is an annual event as we kick off the harvest season. It’s our way of saying thank you to all the farmers in our communities for your hard work and dedication. A live auction and raffle are held in support of STARS and Do More Ag.
Hosted by Lindgren Seeds and Prairie Soils.
